***Mandatory Labeling of Fresh Meat and
Poultry Proposed***
Due to a low level of voluntary compliance
with regulations, the
U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety
and Inspection
Service proposed mandatory nutrition labeling
for single-
ingredient raw meat and poultry products.
Comments were to
be accepted until April 18, however the
proposal is subject to
memorandum in Bush Postpones... above.

***New DRI Report Released***
A new DRI report is the fifth in a series
that updates and expands
on the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs)
in the United
States and Recommended Nutrient Intakes in
Canada. Specific
recommended intakes and/or daily maximum
levels of intake are
stated for vitamins A and K, boron,
chromium, copper, iodine, iron,
manganese, molybdenum, nickel, vanadium, and
zinc.
Read the report at
or press release at
Author's Note: DRIs do not affect food
label regulations until FDA
publishes revised Daily Values. (Daily
Values are based on DRIs.)
It is expected that all the DRI reports will
be incorporated into Daily
Value regulations at one time.
